Postdoctoral Fellow (RP1)

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronic engineering, or related fields of study from either a local university, or a non-local university among the top 100 institutions for the relevant subject, and be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong. He/she should have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. He/she should have strong mathematical/analytical foundation with excellent understanding of the practical applications of mathematics; strong understanding of C#, and other high level programming languages; experience with robotic systems control, computer vision and/or machine learning are preferred.

 

Job responsibilities:

  1. Lead a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers for development of high-performance modelling for fabric pre-sewing handling and folding.

  2. Close communication with team of researchers to provide solutions/insights and translate industrial requirements to concrete deliverables.

  3. Investigation into the technical feasibility and implementation of fabric handling robot system with extensive analysis and experimental validation.

  4. Oversee the development and validation of the robot system for fabric handling.

  5. Assist the preparation of documentation including scientific research papers, technical reports, and grant proposals.

Postdoctoral Fellow (RP2)

Applicant must have a PhD degree or be expected to obtain a PhD degree by the time of appointment and be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong. He/she should have must be able to communicate in Japanese or English at a level that does not interfere with work execution.

Applicant should be proficient in any/multiple of the following areas:

  • Programming in C/C++/C#

  • Practical experience with robotic arms, kinematics, dynamics and trajectory planning

  • Knowledge in Control Theory

  • Experience in developing simulations and using physics/dynamics engines

The objective of this research is to realize a smart robotic system that does not require pre-programming or customization and is widely applicable to the automation of garment handling.   • Sensing and modelling of three-dimensional environments.

  • Development of general-purpose robot hands and mechanisms for grasping flexible objects and motion planning strategies for robots.

  • Development of simulation systems, including but not limited to flexible materials and system integration for industrial applications.

Assistant Mechanical Engineer (2 posts)

Mode: Full-time; Two-year fixed-term basis

Duties

1. Design and develop mechanical system for robotics or automation application including:

  • Analyze end user’s requirements and turn into design specification

  • Prepare detailed 3D/2D drawings, BOM and related technical documentation

  • Design test plans for hardware trial-run and evaluation to verify performance

2. Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors during product development life cycle

3. Project management duties include report generation, milestones setting,

4. Support projects in conjunction with research staff, management and manufacturing groups.

Job Description
